Genesis Behavior Center provides behavioral intervention and treatment in different forms depending upon each child's and family's needs. Funding for these programs may be provided by local school districts, SELPAs, and/or regional centers.

Early Intensive Behavior Treatment Programs

These programs are modeled after the groundbreaking autism treatment programs conducted by Lovaas. They are geared to help children "catch up" with their typically developing peers, and have the goal of integration with peers in general education classrooms. Children may be transitioned from EIBT to Functional Teaching Programs, Consultation Programs, or programs offered by the Local Education Agency (school district or SELPA).

• 35-40 hours of 1:1 intervention by Behavior Therapists as well as consultation and supervision by a Behavior Consultant
• lessons are conducted in Discrete Trials Training and Natural Environment Training formats and are based upon each child's individual learning style
• lessons are geared to prepare for school readiness and prerequisite classroom & academic skills
• areas targeted include: functional communication and language, visual discrimination, imitation skills, appropriate play skills, self-help skills, pre-academic skills, social skills, observational learning, parent training
• services are conducted in-home or at school sites, or as a combination of the two

Early Start Programs

These programs are for very young children (under 3 years old) who may not yet be eligible for a more intense program such as the EIBT, or for whom the treatment team does not feel a more intense program would be beneficial. Children may be transitioned from Early Start into EIBT Programs, Functional Teaching Programs, or programs administered by the local education agency (LEA).

• 20-29 hours of intervention per week
• focus primarily on areas such as: functional communication and language, appropriate play skills, self-help skills, parent training
• teaching methods include use of task analysis in chaining behaviors, Natural Environment Training, and Verbal Behavior training

Functional Teaching Programs

These programs are conducted after transition from an Early Start or EIBT Program, or may be conducted in addition to a current school placement.

• 10-20 hours of intervention per week
• areas targeted include: functional communication and language, self-help skills, appropriate play skills, social skills
• teaching methods include use of task analysis in chaining behaviors, Natural Environment Training, Verbal Behavior training, and Discrete Trails Training if needed

Consultation Programs

A Behavior Consultant works directly with the parent/caregiver to provide intervention, and as a result, no 1:1 Behavior Therapist is involved. Consultation programs may be transitioned to from a prior program placement, or may be in addition to a current school placement.

• up to 3-4 hours per week or on an as-needed basis
• designed for the parents, educators, coaches, aides or caregivers working with a child with autism
• direct assistance from a Behavior Consultant in behavioral training and implementation procedures either in person, by phone, video, or e-mail correspondence
• areas targeted include increasing parent / caregiver / teacher training in areas including functional communication and language, self-help skills, appropriate play skills, social skills
